This temple is one of the most ancient Hindu shrines in the Kathmandu Valley. It covers 16 hundred years of Nepalese art history. A famous place of pilgrimage Budhanilkanth lies some 9 kms north of Kathmandu at the base old Shivapuri hill. There is huge colossal image of Lord Vishnu asleep on the image of Lord Vishnu asleep on the water of a holy pond upon the bed of snakes. It is worth visiting and noteworthy to see this image floating on the water. This fifth century statue is the best example of stone sculpture of Lichchavi period. Historians are of the opinion that this temple has been in existence in the reign of King Hari Dutta of the 6th century.
