Located on a 1000 m ridge in Tanahun district some 140 km from Kathmandu, Bandipur’s hallmark is its beautiful scenery. Its medium elevation, excellent view of the Himalayas, the Marshyangdi Valley, Manakamana Hill and Gorkha Palace, relatively easy accessibility and of course, old Newari town flair, make Bandipur an interesting tourist destinations. The various Newari and Magar festivals can also be of great interest to tourists. Other attractions include the pagoda roofed Bindyashini Temple which houses goddess Durga (Bandipur’s guardian deity), Raniban (Queen’s Forest), a downhill trek to the Siddha Cave and a hike to Ramkot Village. The other important temples and shrines in the vicinity include the Mahalaxmi Temple with its exquisite wood-work and the Khadga Devi Temple which comes alive once a year during the Dashain festival.
